FAQs
You're a brand new brand. How can you already have frequently asked questions?
Yeyeye cool you got us. These are q's we assume people may want to know. We'll add and remove over time, as real questions from real customers hopefully flow in.
How do returns work?
It's quadruple expensive to launch a sustainable activewear brand. In light of this, our founder Danny's mumsy has been drafted out of retirement to run fulfilment, posting items and managing returns in between walking her two mini schnauzers in Northumberland. As the brand outgrows Mumsy's garage, free returns are something we will 100% look to add. For now, if the item is unworn and returned in its original condition, we are more than happy to offer a refund or exchange.
Drop us an email at danny@banf.co.uk detailing which you'd like (refund or exchange) and we'll send over instructions.
What's the fit like?
The fit is COLD 🥶 & oversized. Tight cotton stuck to you while you sweat isn't the juan. Both tops are comfortable and breathable, accommodating yoga flows, circuit and weight training.
If you want tight tops for bulking muscles this may not be the brand for you clothing-wise, but please do stay and enjoy the men's mental health-driven community aspect.
Where are the products made?
Our current factory is in China. How did we land in China?
Our first factory was in Sri Lanka. We were set to launch in summer 2023 however, when we placed the order we were informed it wasn’t big enough to be produced at their SEDEX audited factory and the clothes would instead be made at their smaller, non-SEDEX audited factory. The latter didn’t have any certifications proving workers were paid correctly/had humane working conditions/didn't use child labour etc., so we set out to find a new one. It was a long process, but it’s been worthwhile.
We spoke with several procurement companies and looked at factories in Portugal and India. Having done this it became clear that on both price and quality the best place in the world was China. Doing business in China, however, carries several ethical risks. Gaining visibility on the supply chain and ensuring any manufacturer we worked with adhered to a global regulating authority was very important. To find a SEDEX-audited factory, we used Butch Tailors International (BTI), who, through their deep network of contacts, found us a procurement expert named Barry. Barry connected us to our current factory et voila. Here we are.
What does SEDEX audited mean?
The Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit (SMETA) is the world’s most widely used audit. Businesses use SMETA to understand and make improvements to working conditions and environmental performance in their business and supply chain. The SMETA audit is designed to help protect workers from unsafe conditions, overwork, discrimination, low pay, and forced labour. Every aspect of the factory is scrutinised, and a Corrective Action Plan is given for areas in need of improvement.
Ensuring our factory is SEDEX audited was a crucial part of our due diligence. Barry (our procurement partner) has visited the factory numerous times, however, adding the weight of an official SEDEX audit (which we insisted was sent over to us) gave us the peace of mind needed to partner with them. We also had the factory sign our own, BANF Ethical Code of Conduct.
What does GRS mean?
Adhering to the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) means the recycled material meets GRS's strict ethical + environmental standards.
To quote from their website, "the standard applies to the full supply chain and addresses traceability, environmental principles, social requirements, chemical content and labelling. GRS covers processing, manufacturing, packaging, labelling, trading and distribution of all products made with a minimum of 20% recycled material."
